DSAI Faculty Member Federico Germani Publishes New Article on Ethical AI Afterlives

Associate Professor Federico Germani, faculty member at DSAI, has published a new article titled “The making of digital ghosts: designing ethical AI afterlives” in Ethics and Information Technology, together with Giovanni Spitale.

The article examines the ethical challenges of AI-mediated digital afterlife technologies, such as chatbots, voice clones, and avatars that simulate deceased individuals. The authors propose a design oriented framework to address key issues including consent, transparency, data use, purpose, governance, and autonomy.

By translating ethical concerns into concrete design and governance constraints, the study contributes to current debates on responsible AI and the ethical development of emerging technologies.
