Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient Cities with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI)
Speaker: Dr. Muhammed Oğuzhan Mete
Abstract: In the talk titled “Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient Cities Through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI),” the concept of smart, sustainable, and resilient cities will be addressed from a data-driven perspective. The transformation of cities into dynamic systems that generate data and are managed through data will be discussed, along with the role of spatial data and GIS in this transformation. In addition, within the scope of GeoAI, the integration of artificial intelligence with spatial data will be examined, as well as the contributions of recently prominent large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and assistants to spatial analysis and decision support processes. The talk will also discuss the effects of digital twin technologies on urban planning and scenario analysis, and the opportunities provided to urban management by real-time data generated through sensor and IoT technologies. Within the framework of all these components, the concepts of sustainability and resilience will be evaluated in the context of energy efficiency, disaster risk management, and resource optimization. Recommendations will also be presented regarding urban infrastructure, governance, and implementation strategies.
